Misc. Notes
Janice Sutherland has in her notes that Mary Britton married Samuel Jones, Rogersville, Hawkins, County, TN; d. OH Which would place Samuel in Rogersville in 1809.
29Was in Tennessee, probably Knox County in 1813. Appears to have left for Ohio around 1814. There is an Ohio land purchase by a Samuel Jones in 1819, no way to determine yet if this is our Samuel Jones. Elias is born in Feburary of 1820 in Clark county so it is reasonable to assume they were there prior to 1820.
Samuel lived here (London Ohio) and moved to Springfield Ohio. William Britton lived with him till he moved to Indiana when he came back to London and made his home with William Jones my Grandfather and died at his home.
41In 1820 and 1830 Census for Clark County/ Springfield Township
Was in Clark County with John B. Farr, a family friend, and William Britton, brother to his wife Mary (Britton) Jones. (1824) Joseph Britton wrote a letter to his daughter, son-in-law, and son. This letter references William, Issac, and Zachias Jones of which Issac and Zachias have died. All the records point to these being the brothers of Samuel Jones
42The Will and Probate record for Madison County Ohio list an Isaac and Zachias Jones as having died in 1823.
Moved to Noble Township (Wolf Lake) Noble County in 1833 from Clark County Ohio. We do not have a reason for this move but he and his family will be one of the earliest white families moving into this section of Indiana. Land grants were issued at Fort Wayne so the family most likely came west on the Goshen-Fort Wayne Trail (Road)
Land records have a Samuel Jones of Clark County Ohio purchasing land in Elkhart County 3/16/1832.
Buried in the family plot in Wolf Lake Cemetery, Wolf Lake Indiana.
The details of his life in Noble County and his death are unknown.
