Jones Samuel, one of the earliest settlers of Noble Twp, died at his home in Wolf Lake April 11, 1891, aged 63 years and 5 months. He was born in Clark County, Ohio Nov. 11, 1827 and came to Noble County with his parents in 1833. His father, Samuel Jones Sr., entered and settled on the land which to this day is known as the Jones farm, 1 1⁄2 miles west of Wolf Lake. Samuel Jr. was the youngest of his father’s family and brother of the late Dr. Elias Jones and of Mary, widow of Andrew Humphreys, all of whom are now deceased. Samuel Jr. was the last member of the Jones family who emigrated to Noble County in 1833. In Dec. 1848 he married Nancy Powers, who died in 1850, leaving one child who died soon after. On Dec. 7, 1851 he was married to Hannah Whitaker. By this union 5 children were born, 4 of whom have been dead for many years. His widow and one son, E. S. of Grand Traverse City, Mich., survive him. Funeral will be held. Burial, Wolf Lake Cemetery. His disease was that which is known as la grippe, whose many victims at this hour are prostrate upon beds of affliction and nigh unto death. Noble Co Democrat 4-15-1891
