Misc. Notes
Humphreys Mary Jane, daughter of Samuel and Mary Jones, was born Jan. 12, 1813 in eastern Tennessee. Later the family moved to Clark County, Ohio, where on Feb. 29, 1833 she married Andrew Humphreys. On Oct. 1 of that year she and her husband and her husband’s family moved to Noble Twp, Noble County, settling on what is now (1890) known as the Dr. Jones farm, just west of Wolf Lake. The country was new and wild, there being but three families in Wolf Lake, or even in the township, when they came there. Wild beasts and red men were upon every side. Mr. Humphreys entered the land just across the road from where he first lived and which is now owned by Samuel Braden, near the year 1835, which was their home until they moved to Ligonier in 1866 where he died June 28, 1880. She remained there until within the last four years, she has lived with her daughter, where she died. She had two brothers and two sisters, all of whom are dead but one, the youngest, Samuel, living in Wolf Lake. They had four children, the two daughters still living. Samuel Braden, then a boy 15 years old went to live with Mr. and Mrs. Humphreys and lived with them as a son until manhood. She was a member of Wolf Lake Free Will Baptist Church where the funeral was conducted. + 6-28-1880 She died Oct. 9, 1890, aged 77 years 8 months and 24 days. One son gave his life for his country and one died at home. Noble Co Democrat 6-24-1891
