Misc. Notes
Humphreys Phaortes was born in what is now Noble Twp before Noble County was created, having first seen the light of day in 1834, one of the first white children born in this county. His parents were Andrew and Mary Humphreys, whose farm was about one mile west of Wolf Lake. He learned the trade of harness maker and was a confiding and unsuspicious person, liable to be over-reached by designing people. On May 27, 1873 he married Lamora King and she and one son are left behind. When the War of the Rebellion broke out he and a younger brother entered the service and did their duty nobly and well. Phaortes was spared, but his brother gave his life for his country. + & ^ No date
