Rony was the first child born to Otto and Erika Tunby. Otto and Erika came from Norway and settled in Houghton, So. Dak. In 1910 Rony homesteaded in Westmore MT, 30 miles NW of Baker. He built a one room frame house and lived there three years, as was required by law in order to claim it as his land. In 1917 Rony enlisted in the Army during World War I and was went to Panama. Eight months after he was discharged he returned to Houghton So.Dak. and he married Helga Nygaard. They farmed in the area until 1925 when they moved to his homesteaded land in MT. with their four children Roy, Gordon, Helen and Elphie. Their first child, Marian Nygaard, died at 6 months with spina bifida. Rony and Helga had 5 children born to them in MT, one died at birth (John David). The four other children who were born in MT were Marie Louise, Maurice, Edith and Rolph.
Rony loved eastern MT and in spite of some challenging years ranching during the depression, Helga and Rony had a full and enjoyable life! He died of Hodgkins disease at the VA hospital in Miles City.
