IGI identifies birthplace as VA, marriage place as London, Madison, OH, burial as San Jose. Censuses consistently state birthplace as Ohio. Hanford Journal 10-29-1895: "Frank J Walker went to Visalia last Tuesday to attend the funeral of Mary E Jones, Mrs Walker's grandmother. The deceased was 84 years old and came to California with the Donner party in 1846." From the Bridgeport (CA) Chronicle-Union 10-26-1895: "Mrs Mary E Jones, who came to California in 1846, and her husband built the first sawmill in this state, died at Visalia on Monday."
In 1880 Mary E Jones 69 b. OH (parents b. VA) lived in San Jose with grandchildren Mary 18, Laura 16, George 14, Mattie 10, and daughter Mary Foss 30 b. CA (parents b. TN & OH). The grandchildren are all listed with surname Jones, b. CA, father born Ohio, mother b. England, and are in fact the children of her son Reuben.103
