She was born August 18, 1931, in Valparaiso, Indiana to Linval and Maris Calbeck, and grew up in Crom-well, Indiana. She graduated from Cromwell High School in 1949 and then attended Ball Memorial Nursing School, graduating in 1953. Rena was married to Stanley D. Warner in August of 1953, and they celebrated 52 years together. She was a nursing instructor in East Lansing, MI, then a staff nurse when they moved to St. Paul, MN. She also nursed at Witham Hospital in Lebanon, IN and was an administrator there.
In addition to her work and taking care of her family and home, Rena was active in the communities where she lived. She was a scout and 4-H leader, belonged to the P.E.O. Philanthropic Educational Organization for women, and attended Trinity Lutheran Church in Lebanon and Church of the Lakes in Nineveh, Indiana. Later she attended First Presbyterian Church in Bartow, FL and First English Lutheran in Richmond. She enjoyed knit- ting, sewing, gardening, reading, playing cards, decorating her homes, and traveling with her family.
After retiring Rena and Stan moved from Thorntown, Indiana, to Cordry Lake in Brown County and wintered at Floral Lakes in Bartow. Rena lived in Richmond the past ten years.
Rena was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and brother Rich- ard Calbeck. She is survived by Wendy Thompson and children Katelyn (Trent) Burris, Drew (Katie) Thompson, and Kelsey Thompson; Nancy (Jim) Fair and daughters Beth Ann (Don) Gallant, Rebecca (David) Peck and their daughter Audrey, and Kristen (Jake) Titus; Judy (Tim) McGuire and daughter Emily; and Jeff (Bridgette) Warner and sons JD and Dylan.
A memorial service will be held September 29, 2018, in the Community Room at Friends Fellowship at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to P.E.O. Chapter CT in care of Wendy Thompson, 706 Poplar St., Centerville, IN 47330, or to the Friends Fellowship Endowment Fund, 2030 Chester Blvd., Richmond, IN 47374.
As her children, we fondly remember her sense of humor, especially her ability to laugh at herself, her keen intelligence, and her strong work ethic. She taught us the value of a person’s character: honesty, loyalty, fairness, and kindness. Her faith in Christ was her moral compass throughout her life.
