Donald R. Johnson, 64, of 205 Garrison Road, died Sunday night in Leila Hospital, where he had been a patient since Nov. 16. He had been ill several years. He was born in Columbus. Ohio, and came to Battle Creek in 1963 from Ohio. He enlisted in the National Guard's 37th Ohio Division in 1931 and served with the division until it was disbanded in 1940. He joined the U.S. Army in 1940, served in the South Pacific during World War ll and retired as a major in 1946. He then was employed as a civilian at the Columbus Depot of the Army Corps of Engineers and was transferred to the Defense Logistics Services Center at the Battle Creek Federal Center in 1963. He retired in 1972. He was a member of Battle Creek Elks Lodge 131 and St. Philip Catholic Church, where he taught religion classes. He also was a member of the Battle Creek Retired Officers Association and Knights of Columbus 2898 of Columbus. Ohio. Surviving are his wife, the former Elizabeth Jones; a daughter. Mrs. Scottie (Donna i Colvin of Illesheim, West Germany; a son. Karl F. Johnson of Millersport, Ohio; five grandchildren; his mother. Mrs. Edith Johnson of Columbus. Ohio, and a sister, Mrs. Dorothy Ryerson of Grove City. Ohio. Services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday in St. Philip Catholic Church. Arrangements are by Shaw Funeral Home.
