In 1900 Frank J Walker b. 9/1847 VT (parents b. NH), warden of county jail, lived in Hanford, Lucerne Twp, Kings, CA with wife Mary J b. 6/1862 CA (parents b. OH and Ireland), Henry E b. 3/1888, Weston S b. 8/1890, Frank H b. 8/1892, and Herbert V b. 8/1899, all b. CA, m. 17 y. In 1910 Frank J Walker b. VT (parents b. NH), printing compositor, lived in New Rochelle, Westchester, NY, a boarder married once.
Hanford Journal 10-29-1895: "Frank J Walker went to Visalia last Tuesday to attend the funeral of Mary E Jones, Mrs Walker's grandmother. The deceased was 84 years old and came to California with the Donner party in 1846."
Time Magazine Dec 6, 1976: "Died. Herbert Van Walker, 77, hard-line California superior court judge who sent 19 men to death row in 16 years on the bench; following a heart attack; in Newport Beach, Calif. Avuncular in appearance, Walker reduced just one of his death penalties to life imprisonment. However, only one of the men he sentenced to die ever went to the gas chamber: Convict-Author Caryl Chessman, whom Walker ordered executed in 1960 for a robbery and rape committed in 1948. The best-known survivor of a Walker death sentence is Robert F. Kennedy's assassin, Sirhan Sirhan."
