GEORGE HOFFMAN PIPER and ELIZABETH ANN THOMPSON PIPER are bur. Sec B. of the Chillicothe cemetery. He came to Peoria in 1849, and then took part in the gold rush to CA.

117George Hoffman Piper, born 5 Dec 1811 in Loudon Co., Virginia, was son of George Piper b. 1776 and Jane Runyan, b. 1780. He married Elizabeth Ann Thompson 22 Dec 1836 in Tippecanoe Co., Indiana. Together they had eight children.
George was commissioned 26 May 1832 and served in Capt. Brown's Company Riflemen during the Black Hawk War. George died 6 Feb 1873 in Chillicothe, Peoria Co., Illinois. It is unknown why his headstone is inscribed with the middle initial as W, for his documented named is George Hoffman Piper. It could be the informant for personal data at the time of his death was mistaken; it could be simply an error that was not corrected.
