Matthews A L, 37, died Jan. 6. at Fort Reid, Fla. He was formerly a resident of Wolf Lake. ^ 1-31-1877
43lma L Matthews, of Co. G, recruited man enrolled Aug. 1, 1862 in Ft. Wayne as a Private; mustered in Aug. 9, 1862 in Indianapolis by Col. Carrington at age 21. He was 5Œ 9 tall, fair complexion, blue eyes, and light hair. Born Dec. 29, 1840, in Dayton, OH, employed as a saddler, single, resident of Wolf Lake, in Noble Co., IN. Discharged Jun. 13, 1865 in Chattanooga, TN with rank of Private. Notes: Brother to Edwin. Fought at Stone River. gWas a brave, energetic soldier, observed discipline, and faithful to all trust imposed on him and is justly entitled to much praise from the commanding officer. One of the best of the company.h Died Jan. 6, 1877 in Ft. Reid, FL and buried there; memorial stone in Wolf Lake Cemetery, Row 1/Grave 10. Jennie M.
