Orange Couple in Golden Anniversary
A half century of happy married life was happily celebrated today by Dr. and Mrs. George H. Randell, who own a fine 45-acre orange grove on the old county park road which has been their home for the past ten years.
The venerable couple, both of whom are enjoying the best of health, several of their children, and a group of former Washington friends, now residing at Redondo, appropriately celebrated the important occasion today with a picnic dinner in the cool shade of the giant live oak trees at the Orange county park.
Participating in the golden wedding celebration today were the bride and groom of fifty years, a daughter and two sons, Miss Laura Randell, a teacher in the Fairfax high school. Los Angeles; George C. Randell, who is employed in the Lost Angeles county assessor’s office, and Frank Randell, a Long Beach merchant. (Another son, Ralph R. Randell, a civil engineer who is in government service at Washington. D.C. was unable to be present)
Redondo friends present included Mr. and Mrs. D. D. Looney and family, Mr. and Mrs. Chris Shafer and three children and Mr. and Mrs. George Case.
Dr. and Mrs. Randell were wed at Wolf Lake, Indiana, fifty years ago. They resided at Seattle, Wash., for thirty years before coming to Orange ten years ago when Dr. Randell decided to retire from the practice of medicine and enjoy the mild climate and many beauties of this section of Southern California.

Dr. and Mrs. George H. Randell, who reside on the old road to Irvine park, were receiving congratulations today from their friends on their fiftieth wedding anniversary. Their daughter, Laura Randell, gave them and their friends a chicken dinner in Irvine park at noon today. Guests assembled at the Randell home, where they were received by Dr. and Mrs. Randell in wedding apparel of 50 years ago.

Santa Ana Daily Register, Tuesday March 21, 1939 Taken by Death. Mrs. Emma J. Randell, 82 year-old resident of Orange County, died yesterday at St. Joseph hospital from the effects of a stroke suffered two weeks ago on her orange grove home on the Old Park road. Mrs. Randell was a native of Indiana, born February 28th, 1857 in Noble County, daughter of Elias Jones, a country doctor. She recieved her education in the public schools of that community and then for several years taught school. West to Seattle.

In 1879 she married the late Dr. George H. Randell, then a young doctor. For a short time they lived in Kansas and then moved to Chicago where Dr. Randell became one of the leading physicians. In 1889 they came west to Seattle and in 1920 moved to Orange County where they spent their remaining years on their orange grove in the Villa Park distrit. Dr. Randell passed away in December 1936 at the age of 84. She is survived by a dauthter and three sons: Laura Randell, who teaches at Fairfax High school in Los Angeles, George C. and Frank M. Randell, oragne growers of Villa Park and Ralph R. Randell, for many years engineer with the Federal Power Commission, Washington D.C. Funeral Services will be held Thursday afternoon at 2:30 at the Shannon Chapel in Orange under the direction of the Rev Perry F. Schrock.
