Maryellen (Mem) Knecht Tunby was born and grew up in Houghton, SD. She graduated from Hecla High School and attended teachers' college in Aberdeen , SD then taught in rural school for 4 years. On June 26, 1946 she married Gordon Tunby in Houghton at the Wesleyan Methodist church. They lived in Cedar Rapids IA until 1954 when they moved to Richfield MN and raised their three children, Gordon Wayne, Jan LaRae, and Ron Alan. Maryellen knew Jesus as her Savior and was active in their church. She retired from Control Data Corp. and enjoyed traveling with her husband, Monty. She also was a fan of MN sports.
