Misc. Notes
HYSHAM - This homesteaders' daughter went home to be with the Lord on Monday, March 31, 2003. She departed quietly in her sleep, surrounded by her children. She left seven: Anne (Karlo) Fuwara, Willard (Carole) Ferch, Bob (Edna) Mouat, Dave (Juanita) Mouat, Donna (Johnny) Hjelvik, Frank Mouat, and Ellen (Paul) Schoemer, along with 15 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
Arla was born on the homestead near Circle on Feb. 13, 1918, the oldest of five children; three of them, two little boys and a girl, died there. She was also preceded in death by her husband Jimmy; her parents Hank and Tillie Sorenson; a 2-year-old son, Harold Ferch; her sister, Louise Groh; and her granddaughter, Kirsten Schoemer
When you came to Arla's house, you were home, whether neighbor or stranger, it made no difference. Our door on the farm was never locked. Family gatherings meant pinochle, music by the kids, grand- and great-grand-kids, with, of course, the best cooking in the world. She will be greatly missed by her friends and family.
Memorial services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday April 5, at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hysham. Cremation has taken place. Interment of the urn will follow the services at the Rancher Cemetery. Beals Mortuary of Forsyth is assisting the family with these arrangements. Memorials may be made to the
charity of choice or the Rancher Cemetery Fund.
