ST. PETER -- Bernice Haugen, 87, of St. Peter, formerly of Willmar, died Sunday,July 23,2006, at Grandview Good Samaritan Health Care Center in St. Peter.
Burial will be at a later date at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Arrangements are with St. Peter Funeral Home, Klein Chapel, in St. Peter. Memorials preferred to Grandview Good Samaritan Health Care Center.
She was born Oct. 9, 1918, in Rothsay to Benjamin and Thelma (Stras) Spidahl. She attended and graduated from Minnewaukan schools in Minnewauken, N.D. She graduated from business college in Bismarck, N.D.
She married Ernest Haugen on Oct. 9, 1938. She worked for the JC Penney Company in Bismarck, N.D., and Minneapolis, for 17 years. They owned and operated Haugen's Department Store in Parshall, N.D., for 10 years. They moved to Willmar in 1978 and she worked at White Drug in the Skylark Mall for 14 years.
She is survived by two sons: Larry (and Sharon) of St. Peter, Jim (and Brenda) of Lakeville; seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and her siblings: Mae Wetch of Franklin, Tenn., Luella Johnston, Carroll (and Byrdia), Rodger, all of Devil's Lake, N.D., and Gordon (and Adele) of Dent, MN.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1995; one son: Kenneth; and two siblings.
