Friedrich Weigand

LOWELL -- Mr. Weigand was born in Berlin, Germany on February 12, 1915, son of Friedrich R. and Charlotte (Heller) Weigand.
He was a graduate of the German Air Force Academy (Dresden) in 1938. He served in the German Air Force as a bomber pilot and captain of a bomber squadron.
After the war, he worked for the American Friends Service Committee in Freiburg, and then later in Darmstadt/Kranichstein, Germany, where he met his wife, Ralpha Randell, of Washington D.C., whom he married in 1949. He immigrated to the United States in 1950. He worked for Fellows Corporation in Springfield, VT for 28 years as a designer of gear cutting machines.
After retiring in 1981, he moved to Tyson, Vermont where he lived until 2006 and where he was active in the Lion's Club and the Plymouth Recycling Committee. He loved watching the Red Sox and collecting stamps. He spent his final years living in Lowell, MA.
He was predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Ralpha Weigand. He is survived by his son, Christopher Weigand; daughter-in-law, Naiying Weigand; and two grandchildren, Melissa Weigand and Sihao Cao.
