LOWELL -- Mrs. Ralpha Weigand was born in Washington, D.C., on April 7, 1922. She was the daughter of Ralph R. and Huldah (Weishaar) Randell.

She graduated from American University at Doctors' Hospital in Washington, D.C. She completed a degree in medical technology in Hanover, N.H.

She served as medical technologist at Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital, and at the William W. Bachus Hospital in Norwich, CT, before going to Germany as a post World War II volunteer with the American Friends Service Committee. From 19471950, she did relief work in Germany, serving first as head of the food distribution program in Freiburg, and then later as coordinator for all AFSC shipments to Germany, based in Darmstadt/Kranichstein.

On December 18, 1949, she married Friedrich-Wilhelm Weigand at the Jagdschloss (hunting castle) Kranichstein, property of Prince Albert of Hesse, who had graciously allowed the AFSC to use it for living and working quarters.

After returning to the states, she and her husband lived in S. Ackworth, NH, Bellows Falls, VT, and Springfield, VT, before retiring to Plymouth, VT. While in Springfield, Mrs. Weigand worked in the laboratory in Springfield Hospital, before becoming a translator of French and German at Fellows Corporation.

Mrs. Weigand is survived by a son, Christopher, and a granddaughter, Melissa, both living in Andover, MA.
