Descendants of Pioneers Meet for Reunion Picnic

Descendants of William Edward and Almira Warren, who crossed the plains from Missouri to Oregon in 1847, had a reunion picnic at the home of Mr. and Mrs. W. S. Love, June 28, to celebrate the 85th birthday of Mrs. Love's aunt, Mrs. P. E. Thomason (Ora) the youngest of twelve children of the Warren Family, and the only survivor.
Mrs. Thomason was born on the Warren donation claim eight miles west of McMinnville. Her parents had settled there in 1851. They traded property in what is now the center of Portland for a team of oxen in order to make the trip from Portland to the claim site. Mrs. Thomason's parents, one brother and two sisters were listed in Portland's first census in 1850. Her father was a judge of the first election in Portland, and copied the poll books sent to the governor. He established one of the first woodyards in the Portland area.
Her uncle, Henry Warren, was one of the early state senators from Yamhill County. He helped establish McMinnville Baptist College (now Linfield). Mrs. Thomason started to school in a log cabin near the donation claim and finished at the Baptist College. In her early days she journeyed in ox-driven covered wagons; today, Mrs. Thomason's favorite media of travel is the airplane.
She spent most of her married life in McMinnville and on a farm near Turner. Since her husband's death, Mrs. Thomason has made her home with a daughter, Mrs. Byra Walker, in Portland. Another daughter, Mrs. Imogene Hutchason, lives in Stockton, and a son, Owen, lives in Atascadero, Calif. Mrs. Thomason visits her niece, Mrs. Love, in Eugene, often, and has a number of friends here.
Those present for the reunion included Mrs. Thomason's grandson, Warren Walker and his wife and daughter Sally of Lebanon. Nieces and nephews present were: Mr. and Mrs. Matt Warren, Mr. and Mrs. Chester Carpenter and daughter Judy, all of Willamette; Oren Stimson of Idylwild; Max Stimson and daughter Amelia and Mr. and Mrs. Harry Stimson Jr., all of Myrtle Creek; Mr. and Mrs. Veryl Jones, son Howard and daughter Carol of McMinnville; Mr. and Mrs. Love and daughter Imogene of Eugene. A foster daughter, Mrs. Roberta Everson, daughter Kay and son Gregory of Springfield also attended. Old-time friends, Mr. and Mrs. James Emerson of Eugene, assisted Mrs. Love with the reunion dinner.
