Misc. Notes
Alice Moe, age 88, of Silvana, WA, passed away January 18, 2010 in Stanwood, WA. Alice was born to Frank and Natalie Fisher October 23, 1921 in Port Angeles WA. She was raised by her grandmother Gypsy Barker in the Three Lakes area of Snohomish, WA. She grew up helping to pick strawberries, raspberries and gathering chicken eggs. She was thrilled to play the violin and viola during her high school years. Alice graduated from Snohomish High School in 1939 and completed her RN Nursing diploma at Providence Hospital in Everett, WA in 1943. On October 12, 1945 she married Luther Moe, after he returned from WWII. They made their home in the Silvana area and proudly operated the family dairy farm. Along with that, Alice loved being a nurse and dedicated herself to being the best nurse she could be. She worked at the Arlington General Hospital, Valley Medical Center (Dr. Hahn and Dr. Huber) and Dr. Mark Lucianna of Arlington, WA. She was an active member of the Peace Lutheran Church where she helped with the annual lefsa baking and made many quilts for others. Through the church Peace Corp., Alice also created many beautiful quilts and quilt hangings for members of her family. She was a member of the Daughters of Norway and learned to make many Scandinavian specialties from local experts. After her retirement she and Luther enjoyed building and maintaining their rose garden. Many of us enjoyed beautiful rose bouquets carefully selected in the early morning hours.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Luther; sister, Pauline; and brother, Arnold.
Alice is survived by her sister, Helen; children, Steven Moe, of Grand Junction, CO, Greta Ashley, of Stanwood, and Christine Moe, of Snohomish; special niece, Janice Sabo, of Arlington, WA; grandchildren, Allyson Moore, Denise Ashley, Kjersti Sundberg, Eric Moe, Stacy Biedleman, Paul Ashley and Andrew Moe; and great-grandchildren, Kale and Karter Sundberg, Kolton and Karson Biedleman, Kayla and Chance Cochrell and their families.
Alice thoroughly enjoyed many things in life with her family. She delighted in family camping, hot dog roasts, gardening, cooking, (she loved to try any new recipe) with her grandchildren. Alice also took pleasure in performing skits for the Silvana Fair and family reunions.
Viewing will take place from 12 noon to 7 p.m., Thursday, January 21, 2010, at Weller Funeral Home, 327 N. MacLeod Ave., Arlington, WA. A graveside service will be held at 12 noon, Friday, January 22, 2010, at Valley View Cemetery in Silvana with a memorial service to follow at 1:00 p.m. at Peace Lutheran Church, 1717 Larson Rd., Silvana, WA.
