Luther Rueben Moe, 87, after a prolonged illness passed away at home on May 30, 2008 while surrounded by loved ones in Stanwood, WA. He was the seventh of eight born to Olgar and Gustava Moe August 30, 1920, in Everett, WA.

Luther grew up in the Silvana, WA area and attended the Norman School. He graduated from Stanwood High School and went on to Washington State University (WSU) on a football scholarship. Excelling as an athlete in high school, he earned letters in football, basketball and baseball.
He enjoyed a life-long interest in sports of all kinds.

He left WSU to serve his country in the U.S. Air Corps. during World War II in the South Pacific where he earned the Distinguished Flying Cross medal. Upon returning from the war he married Alice Fisher.

Though he operated a Chevron Standard Station in Seattle, WA all he talked about was farming, so after moving for a short time to the Kackman Rd. area, he returned to his family farming roots on Norman Rd. near Silvana. Ever present in his daily life was a love for hard work, the land and animals. This led to receiving the Centennial Farm Award at the Evergreen State Fairgrounds to celebrate the legacy of three generations of farming by the Moes; Ole, Olgar and Luther. Luther was a live-long member of Peace Lutheran Church in Silvana. He also enthusiastically supported the Silvana Fair and other community activities.

A grandson of Norwegian immigrants, he was active in the Mjolner lodge, Sons of Norway. His rendition of the Norwegian table blessing was entertainment for the younger generations over the years. Luther was well-liked by everyone. He had a marvelous sense of humor and people loved to hear him laugh. He could never finish a joke without laughing out loud as he was about to say the punch line.

Luther's life was full of wonderful farming and family experiences and the love of Alice. He was a terrific husband, father and grandfather. Those who knew him have countless fond memories and he will be dearly missed.

Luther is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Alice Moe, of Stanwood; brother, Everett Moe, of Stanwood; children, Steven Moe, of Grand Junction, CO, Greta Ashley, of Stanwood, Christine Moe, of Snohomish, WA; niece, Janice Sabo, of Arlington, WA; grandchildren, Allyson Moore, Andrew Moe, Denise Cochrell, Eric Moe, Kjersti Sundberg, Paul Ashley, and Stacy Biedleman; great-grandchildren, Kale and Kartor Sundberg, Kolton Biedleman, Kayla and Chance Cochrell and their families.
