Funeral Service Set For Reverend Brien
Funeral services for the Rev. Carsten Brien, 50, former pastor of the Mandan First Lutheran, Stone and Heart River churches who died Wednesday morning in a Bismark hospital, will be held a 2 p.m. Friday from Trinity Lutheran Church in Bismark with the Rev. John Nicolai, the Re. Dr. J. Elmo Agrimson and the Rev. Richard Hagestuen officiating. Burial will be made in the Crary, N.D. cemetery at 2 p.m. Saturday.
Rev. Brien was born at Devils Lake on Jan. 31, 1920. He received his education at Crary, Concordia College in Moorhead, Minn., Luther Theological Seminary at St. Paul, Minn., and North Dakota State University in Fargo. He was ordained as a Lutheran minister in 1945 at Central Lutheran Church in Minneapolis. He served parishes at Arlington, Wash., Bend, Ore., and Mandan.
He married Rose Sanderson at Karlstad, Minn., June 4, 1944. They came to Mandan in 1949, and since January of 1967, he and his wife had been teaching at Fort Yates schools.
He leave his wife, Rose, two sons, Spencer at Luther Theological Siminary in St. Paul and Michael at North Dakota State University in Fargo; two daughters, Miriam at Northwestern Lutheran Academy at Mobridge, S.D., and Monica, in Chicago. He also leaves his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Somon Brien, Crary, and two brothers, the Rev. Raymond Brien, Coon Rapids, Minn., and Edgar of Crary.
