Misc. Notes
Renkenberger John B, for many years one of Noble County’s citizens, passed away at his home in Avilla Thursday evening of last week after a lingering illness. He was a son of Christopher and Barbara Renkenberger and was born March 1, 1831; died Nov. 4, 1909, age 78 years, 8 mo. and 3 days. He was at the home of his parents until 14 years of age, after which he went to Cincinnati to learn the tinner’s trade. In a few years he returned to his old home in Columbiana County, Ohio, where he worked at his trade for a short time. In 1849 he was married to Miss Lydia Renkenberger, and in 1852 they came to Noble County, Indiana, which was then a dense forest. They erected a rude cabin and, like other pioneers, went to work and by industry and economy they became the possessors of a beautiful home surrounded by all those things that make life enjoyable. He was a good husband and father, was deeply concerned not only in the welfare of his family and private affairs but also took a deep interest in all those things which lift the world to a higher plane. He was always in the front ranks in doing what he could for the advancement of churches and schools. In his public career, he was Sunday School superintendent, elder in the Presbyterian Church, township assessor, trustee and commissioner, the duties of which he faithfully discharged. He leaves an aged wife; four sons, Horace O., Thomas C., Hiram A., Free Dell; three daughters, Mrs. Henry Monger, Mrs. J. B. Fulks, and Mr. J. O. Good; their one son dying in infancy; nineteen grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; four brothers, Benjamin, Solomon, William and Jacob; and two sisters, Mrs. Leah Wunderlin of Columbiana O., and Mrs. Lucy Baumusburger of Missouri. The funeral will be held in the Avilla M.E. Church Sunday. Burial, Hooper Cemetery. ~ 11-?-1909 ^ 11-10-1909
