Buckles Maynard R, 95, of Susanville, Calif., died in a Reno, Nev. hospital on June 28 of complications following surgery. He was born on the Buckles farm south of Kimmell on April 28, 1883. He was a graduate of and former teacher and coach at Wolf Lake High School; a graduate of Tri state University, Angola, and received his master’s degree from the University of California at Berkeley. The Buckles family moved to Susanville in 1924 where he began teaching math at Lassen Union High School and Lassen Junior College. He retired from teaching in 1948 after a 40-year career, although he continued to tutor students who needed help in math. In 1962 he received Tri State University Distinguished Alumnus Award. Survivors are his wife, the former Llewellah Price; a daughter, Betty Jo Coplen of Novato, Calif.; a son, Dr. Robert E. of Iowa City, Iowa; granddaughter, Susan Edwards and great-grandson, Danny Edwards of Sacramento, Calif.; grandsons Bill Buckles of Chicago, and Dick Buckles of Iowa City; and a nephew, Stanley E. Buckles of R. 1, Kimmell. Funeral was June 10 at Susanville United Methodist Church. Burial, Lassen Cemetery. + 6-28-1978
