HELEN ANN GOULDEN DISSE of Thief River Falls passed away on Saturday, October 12, 2013, with her family by her side at the age of 92.
Helen A. Goulden was born June 25, 1921 at Fergus Falls, MN, the daughter of Henry Farnum and Gunild "Nellie" (Bakken) Goulden. She was baptized and confirmed at the Congregational Church, Barnesville, MN. Helen attended and graduated from Barnesville High School in 1939. She attended NDSU and Interstate Business College at Fargo, ND.
She was employed at International Harvester, Douglas Aircraft in CA during WWII, and also was licensed in real estate, practicing in Minnesota and North Dakota. Later she worked as an Interior Decorator at Metzger's Furniture in Fargo; Kordell Furniture in Thief River Falls.
She was married to Dr. James O. Disse and to this union were born three children. As a family, they spent most of their lives in Thief River Falls. Helen was a gifted artist, a sharp business woman, a skilled bridge player, and a wonderful support for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Survived by children: Linda (Orrin) Joppru, Mary Helen (Richard) Holen, and James Goulden (special friend Kelly) Disse; 5 grandchildren: Conrad (Mindi) Joppru, Brian (Stephanie) Joppru, Rodney Joppru, Sterling Joppru and Douglas K. Reierson; 3 great-grandchildren: Aaron Joppru, Jacob Joppru, Paige Alexandria DeFrang Joppru, and Tyler Loe; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Helen is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Dr. James O. Disse; brothers, Roy, Fred, and Carl Goulden; sisters, Dorothy Bringgold and Berniece Janecky; sister-in-law, Lillian Lamb Goulden; brothers-in-law, Lyman Bringgold and Dr. Woodburn Janecky.
Helen was able to spend her last days in her own home, which was her wish, due to the care of her children and the expert and compassionate services of Hospice of the Red River Valley.
There will be a private service in the spring at her family's burial plot in Barnesville, MN.
May her soul rest in peace.
