Gordon Keppel, Jr.
Age 56, of Newark, DE passed away on Tuesday, November 17, 2009 at his residence.
Mr. Keppel was born on May 25, 1953 in Richmond, VA to the late Dr. Gordon & Margaret Keppel. Gordon proudly served his country the Army being stationed at Fort Hood and was deployed to Thailand during the Vietnam War. After returning, he graduated from the University of Delaware with a Business and Economics degree. During his 35 years as a project investment engineer with Dupont, he traveled extensively both nationally and internationally. He retired from Dupont in January of this year. Gordon spent many happy years coaching in the Newark Parks and Rec Girls Ponytail softball league. Gordon's true calling was his passion for feeding his loved ones and others, his inscription to his granddaughter on her copy of his favorite cookbook read "To Cook for someone is the best way to show love and friendship, love Pop Pop March 2009". In recent years, Gordon spent most of his free time doing what he loved, watching his grandchildren participate in their sporting events.
He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Julie; daughters, Amanda Keppel of Dover, DE and Jessica Keppel Golembrosky and son-in-law Kurt of Newark, DE. He took great delight in and is survived by his four grandchildren, Tyler and Derek Golembrosky & Dionn and Demetrius Stevenson. He also leaves his twin brother, Charlie Keppel & his wife Nancy of Palatine, IL, sisters, Barbara Bean of Sierra Vista, AZ and Jane Davis & her husband Don of Grandview, WA; brothers, Arthur B. Keppel & his wife Karen of Springfield, PA and John F. Keppel & his wife Cynthia of Portland, OR; mother in law, Nancy M. Jones & her husband Major William S. Jones; sister-in- law, Alexis Salzano, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends who will miss him dearly.
A Memorial Service will be held 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 21, 2009 at St Paul's Lutheran Church, 701 South College Ave, Newark, DE where friends may call one hour prior. In lieu of interment, Gordon wants his remains to be used in medical research, and his family is honoring his wishes.
