Funeral services for Rev. Edward R. Leivestad, of Rochester, Minnesota, were held at the Sidney Lutheran Brethren Church in Sidney, with Jerry Leivestad officiating.
Interment was in the Riverview Cemetery in Savage under the direction of Fulkerson Funeral Home of Sidney.
Edward Randolph Leivestad was born on Sept. 30, 1916, in Savage to Iver and Gertrude (Rommerheim) Leivestad. He grew up and attended school in the Savage area. He took three years off between his freshman and sophomore years of high school, during which time he worked on a farm near Sidney. He attended Concordia College in Moorhead, Minn. where he met Merlene Moe. They were married on Sept. 5, 1943 and lived in the St. Paul/Minneapolis area while Edward attended Luthern Northwestern Seminary in St. Paul. Edward was ordained in the Savage Lutheran Church on Sept 20, 1945, and accepted a call to Amiral, Saskatchewan, Canada.
He served the five point parish for a year; then moved to Dillon for two years; two-point parish in Froid for eight years; four-point parish in Adams, ND. for six years; two point parish in Clifford, ND. for eith years; two point parish in Halliday, ND. for seven years, then retired in Battle Lake, Minn. and stared working part time as a visitation Pastor in the two point parish to Battle Lake. He retired for good in 1990 but would still go out to preach as a fill in on occasion. In 1991 they moved Rochester. He had been at the Preston Good Samaritan Center since Oct 2000.
Edward quietly slipped into the presence of his beloved Lord Friday, July 27, 2001. He was 84 years old.
Survivors include two daughters, Mae(Duane)Benting of Portland, Ore. and Marlys (Gene)Ohnstad of Oronoco, Minn; a son, Ernest Iver (Sharon) of Burlington, W. VA; five grandchildren ; two great grandchildren; on brother Lars(Marie)Leivestad; two sister in laws, Ruby Leivestad and Ruth Leivestad Enyart; one brother in law, Curtis Moe and many nieces and nephews.
He is preced in death by his wife, his parents, three sister, Carrie, Gunhild and Lenora and three brothers, Leonard, Nels and George.
