LAVERNE HUTLIN
Laverne Hutlin, 80, of Ada, Minnesota, passed away on Monday, November 3, 2003.
She died after fighting a courageous battle with cancer and was surrounded by her children in her rural Ada home at the time of her death.
She was born on her mother's birthday, June 13, 1923 in Fargo, N.D. to Neil and Hilda (Wick) Rinde. She was baptized and later confirmed at Park Center Lutheran Church, Hoople, N.D. She grew up on a farm near Hoople, and attended Dundee District #35 School. She graduated from the Walsh County Agricultural School in Park River, N. D. in 1940.
She married Helmer Hutlin on January 27, 1944 in Park River. They farmed for several years near Hoople. The Hutlin's moved to a farm near Ada in 1960.
He preceded her in death on January 5, 1984.
She was a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church where she was active in the Ladies Aid and Bible Study. She will be remembered for her strong Christian faith and quiet demeanor. Her wealth was measured by the love of and for her family and friends. She made beautiful quilts, stuffed animals and other needlework for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed making bread and tending to her vegetable and flower gardens and will be remembered by many for the wonderful lefse she made and sold.
She is survived by three daughters, Marlys (Earl) Fischer, Marlette, Marian (Arnold) Brelje, Glencoe, MN. and Janice (Tom) Albaugh, Ada, MN.; two sons, Glen (Barb) Hutlin, Hillsboro, ND. and Neil Hutlin, Ada, MN.; 14 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two brothers, Keith (Irene) Rinde, Phoenix, AZ. and Marvin (Ernie) Rinde, Brainerd, MN.; and two sisters, Marilyn (Don) Dominick, Minneapolis, MN., and Rosalind (Luke) Birdwell, Camp Verde, AZ.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Helmer; one grandchild; Sonja Brelje; and two brothers, Llewellyn and Ronald Rinde.
Funeral services were conducted Friday, November 7, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church, rural Ada, MN. with interment at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery.
A prayer service was conducted on Thursday evening at the Fredrikson Funeral Home, Ada,
