Ann J. Hultin, 85, of Grand Forks, ND, passed away Friday, December 10, 2010, at 4000 Valley Square, Hearthstone in Grand Forks.
Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, December 13 in Wesley United Methodist Church, 1600 4th Avenue North, Grand Forks, ND. Visitation is one hour prior to the funeral service in the church on Monday. Burial will be in Hoople Cemetery, Hoople, ND, in the spring.
Anna Josephine Hultin was born May 31, 1925, the youngest of 10 children, to John and Anna (Dahl) Hultin at Grafton, ND. She lived with her family on their farm near Hoople, ND until the death of her mother in 1933. Ann, along with two brothers, moved to Chicago, IL to live with their sister, Doris Hultin. As a teenager, Ann worked at the Marshall Field's Department store in the Oak Grill room, as a waitress. She loved this job and made friendships with two customers that remained lifelong friends. Ann married Arthur Schroeder in 1945 in Chicago, IL. They moved to Lawton, ND and later to Lakota, ND where they farmed. Ann loved the farm and planted hundreds of trees and later grew beautiful flowers. She loved all God's creatures and was always ready to mend a wing, feed a stray and take in the forlorn animals that no one else wanted. Ann was a member of the United Church of Christ in Lakota. She taught Sunday school and was in Ladies Aid. Her faith and love of God never faltered. Ann attended nurses training in Devils Lake and, in 1975, moved to Bismarck ND to work at St. Alexius Hospital. It was there that she met Ed Krueger. They married and moved to his farm near McClusky, ND. Ed died in 1987. Ann then moved to Devils Lake, ND to be closer to her family. She moved to 4000 Valley Square in 2000.
Ann is survived by her children, Aileen (Duane) Sandwick, Grand Forks, Alvin (Debbie) Schroeder, Devils Lake, ND, Paul (Verda) Schroeder, Big Lake, MN, Nedra (Ted) Hoberg, Grand Forks; grandchildren, Melissa (Jeff) Lyon, Grand Forks, Michelle (Ray) Rakoczy, Thompson, ND, Amber (Lance) Duey, Crary, ND, Ryan Schroeder, Devils Lake, Ashley and Jesse Schroeder, Big Lake, MN, Matthew (Ashley) Froelich, Grand Forks, James Froelich, KS; six great-grandchildren; sister in law, Frieda Hultin, Minot, ND and brother in law, The Rev. Everette Owens, Valdosta, GA; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her son, Arlan Schroeder; sister, Doris Owens; brothers, Helmer, Leonard, Russell, Vernal, Alvin, Arvid, Merton and The Rev. Irvin Hultin; a niece, Sheryl Owens and nephews, Alden and Shelden Hultin.
