Robert R. Maas, 89, died peacefully Saturday, Nov. 13, 2010, following a short illness, in Chris Jensen Nursing Home. Bob was born Aug. 10, 1921, to Rocky and Winifred (Alm) Maas in Duluth. He graduated in 1939 from Duluth Central High School. Upon graduation he joined the U.S. Army and served with the 10th Mountain Division in Italy during World War II. Bob married Fern Dahl Aug. 11, 1944, and together raised four sons. He was employed with Coca-Cola and then Budweiser Distributors until his retirement. He was always so happy to have formed so many friends along his routes. Bob loved bowling on leagues and was very proud to have been inducted into the Duluth Bowling Hall of Fame. During the past 40 years, he spent his summers at Fish Lake enjoying fishing and sitting out at night throwing logs on the fire. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Fern; sons John and Thomas. Bob is survived by his sons, Robert (Marilyn) of Duluth and James (Donna) of Fish Lake; sister Betty Rutoski of Taylor, Mich.; brother William of Fish Lake; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He will be sadly missed by all of his family and friends. VISITATION: 1 until the 2 p.m. Mass of Christian burial Friday, Nov. 19, in St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church.
