PA), railroad guard, and mother-in-law Mary Jones b. 6/1849 CA (parents b. CA). The Jones had been m. 30 y and the Montagues 7. In 1900 Horace Edward Montague, living at the same address, was registered to vote. In 1910 Horace Montague was living with a new wife in Los Angeles, having married her 3 years previously. A newspaper article kindly sent by Richard and Margaret Wiebusch reads: In a column of social news entitled ìIn the Swim,î the San Francisco Chronicle printed the following: ìMrs. Horace E. Montague, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leon E. Jones, who is studying voice culture with Professor Royal Stone Smith in New York, has accepted a position in St. Bartholomewís Church at a very good salary. It is one of the wealthiest churches in New York and numbers among its members the Vanderbilts and Astors.î San Francisco Chronicle, October 27, 1895, p. 6.
In 1909 another Mabel E Jones was living at 229 Steiner Street, San Francisco, CA, and working as ìteacher musicî [Crocker-Langley, San Francisco Directory 1909, p. 862, kindly emailed by Richard and Margaret Wiebusch]. In 1914 that Mabel E Jones was living at 2734 Greenwich Street, San Francisco, CA, and working as a ìjanitrix [at the] U.S. Custom Houseî [Crocker-Langley, San Francisco Directory 1914, p. 1019, kindly emailed by Richard and Margaret Wiebusch]. In 1930 Mabel Jones 58 b. CA (parents b. CA), music teacher and single, was lodging in San Francisco with Mary Kelleher 57 b. CA, store clerk. The death dates cited above, as well as the 1922 obit of Leon E Jones stating that he was survived only by son Henry, indicate that any reference to Mabel E Jones after 1907 does not refer to Mabel E Jones daughter of Leon and Mary J Jones. But there could be some connection to the Jones family. In addition to the Mabel E Montague listing in the Santa Cruz Mem Park records, there is a listing for Mabel E Jones, no other information, sect A, Cutler family plot. This could be a double listing for Mabel E Jones Montague or could be a listing for this mysterious Mabel E Jones.103
