DEATH OF JEMIMA FISHER
Mrs. Jemima Fisher, widow of the late Z. T. Fisher, Sr., died Monday morning at the Griffith Inn in Red Oak after an illness of but a few days, following a period of several months of failing health, death being due to a complication of Old age ailments. The funeral was held from the Griffith Inn Parlors on Tuesday afternoon at 2:30, the service being conducted by Rev. George E. Wood of the Congregational church and the pall bearers being G. B. Ericsson, Gideon Blackstone, F. E. Loomis and S. S. Davis. Interment was in the Red Oak Cemetery.Mrs. Fisher, whose maiden name was Jemima Jones, was born at London, Ohio, July 22, 1826, so was in her 86th year. She grew to womanhood in London and was there united to Zealot T. Fisher on September 11, 1844 and soon afterward they came to Oskaloosa, Iowa, where they lived until 1871, when they came to Red Oak and where Mr. Fisher's death occurred about 14 years ago.
Mrs. Fisher was the mother of ten children, four daughters and six sons, but is survived by but two daughters and one son, as follows; Mrs. Fannie Pattison of Los Angles, California, Mrs. George Martin of Kansas City, and Z. T. Fisher, Jr., of Red Oak. All her children Mrs. Fisher had seen grow to maturity and raising families of their own, except the one child who died in infancy. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, and by one brother and one sister, the latter living in Chicago and Marshalltown, Iowa, respectively. On account of their feeble health, neither were able to be present during Mrs. Fisher's last illness. The daughter from Kansas City, however and her husband, were both present during the mother's last hours and at her funeral.
Mrs. Fisher was a pioneer in this city and community, and was the widow of a man who was closely identified with the most forward improvements in the history of Red Oak. He husband was one time mayor of Red Oak, being elected in 1872, and also representing the county in the state legislature in the late seventies. He at one time owned a half interesting the Red Oak Express. Mrs. Fisher was scarcely less noted than was her husband and was very prominent in social and religious circles. She became a believer in the Presbyterian faith early in life =, but after coming to Red Oak she and her husband were members of the Methodist Church. She was a devoted mother, a faithful friend, and a kind and charitable neighbor and as such is deeply mourned by a wide acquaintance who deeply grieve for her sorrowing family.
