KREIN, Susan Carol Aug. 29, 1933 - Apr. 1, 2009 Susan Krein, a resident of Depoe Bay, Ore., passed away peacefully in her home on April 1, 2009, of cancer at age 75. Susan was born in 1933 to Hazel and Harold West of Seattle, Wash. She moved to Sacramento in 1960, raising her three children as a single mother while coming up through the ranks of the Sacramento YMCA to become the first woman Executive Director of a local YMCA Branch. She later joined the Farm Credit Bank in Sacramento where she retired as a Vice President in 1994. She and her husband Phil Krein moved to the Oregon Coast, which had been their dream for many years. Susan remained active in retirement. For many years she served on the League of Women Voters of Lincoln County, Oregon, serving as a board member, vice president and president. She was also active in the Oregon Shores Conservation Coalition and the League of Conservation Voters. She taught in adult literacy programs, raised funds for needy children and the homeless in Lincoln County. She is survived by her loving husband of 31 years, Phil Krein; children Charleen Borger, Gavin McHugh and Kenna Smith; stepsons Marc Krein and Matt Krein; nine grand- children; and a sister, Marcia Dick, lives in Seattle. In lieu of flowers the family requests dona- tions be made to the American Cancer Society. A memorial ser- vice will be held in lieu of a funeral sometime in the near future.
