SACRAMENTO — Jack Stiver Jr., 98, died peacefully at his residence in Sacramento, Calif., on March 26, 2011. He was born Aug. 30, 1912, in Portland to Jack and Jenny (Yeo) Stiver.

As a young man growing up in Portland, he spent summers at the Yeo family house in Seaview. He worked on the IR&N Railroad and helped at the Seaview Riding Academy.

After serving in the Marine Corps during World War II, he moved the family to California and worked for more than 40 years in the floorcovering industry. Although he retired in Sacramento, he was a lifelong visitor to the Peninsula.

Preceded in death by his first wife, Ann, survivors include his second wife, Mary Stiver of Sacramento; a son, Tom Stiver of Seaview; a daughter, Carolyn Nelson of Portland; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

A celebration of life was held.
