Obituary:
Richard Wiley Jones, 75, of Port Orchard died July 19, 1998, after a courageous battle with lung cancer, heart disease and Parkinson’s disease.
He was born on Feb. 28, 1923, in Portland Ore., to Pha Wiley Jones and Bessie Yeo Jones. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
Mr. Jones served in the Marine Corps during World War II. He made his living for 22 years as an auto mechanic for National Car Rental. Later he worked as a custodian for the South Kitsap School District for five years until his retirement.
Family members include his wife of 57 years, Elsie of Port Orchard; three sons, Richard Wiley Jones Jr. (Shannon Napier) of Anchorage, Alaska, Donald Wayne Jones (Joyce) of Cle Elum, and Robert Wilkerson Jones (Maria) of Bremerton;three daughters, Barbara Lois Rodgers (Floyd) of Des Moines, Delores Mildred Lehman (Herb) of Bow, and Betty Louise Christine (Earl) of Lakebay; two brothers William of Kirkland and Thomas of Edmonds; two sisters, Rita Walker of Tigard, Ore., and Elizabeth O’Boyle of Longbeach, Calif; 15 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Ladora Daly of Albany, Ore.
A celebration of life will be on Aug 22, 1998 at a location to be announced.
Arrangements are under the direction of Haven of Rest, Gig Harbor.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Heart Association.
